Heavy Rain Chronicles

The Heavy Rain Chronicles were intended to be a series of short, downloadable prequels to Heavy Rain. Only one episode, The Taxidermist, was released, though at least two more were confirmed to be in development, including one that would have focused on the beginnings of the Origami Killer.[1] The DLC is only included on the PlayStation 3 release of the game; the PlayStation 4 remaster and PC releases do not include it.

Phil Campbell, who previously worked on the main game's script translations, also worked on the scripts for the Chronicles alongside David Cage. His website contains images of the development notes for Episode Two.[2]

The Taxidermist is the only completed entry in the Chronicles, and was released April 1, 2010. It follows Madison Paige two years before the events of the game as she investigates Leland White, a man suspected of being the Origami Killer. The episode was meant to explain how she became an insomniac.

Episode Two[]

An untitled episode focusing on Norman Jayden was in pre-production before the cancellation of the DLC, and would have presumably been released as the second entry in the Chronicles. It was intended to reveal how Jayden started using ARI and became addicted to Triptocaine, as well as (possibly) the origin of his scar.

Episode Three[]

An untitled episode focusing on Scott Shelby was planned before the cancellation of the DLC, and would presumably have been released as the third entry in the Chronicles. It was intended to explore Scott's early investigations of the Origami Killer case, though no further details on its plot have been released.

Cancellation and Further News[]

In 2010, Quantic Dream announced that the development of the Chronicles was on hold, as time and resources were being allotted to adapt Heavy Rain to the Move system. In an interview with Eurogamer, David Cage expressed disappointment with the decision to postpone the DLC and revealed that he had written scripts for three Chronicles episodes prior to the announcement, presumably including one focusing on Ethan Mars. Cage also stated that it was unlikely these additional episodes would ever be produced.[3] On September 22, 2010, a patch enabling Move support was released. At E3 in 2012, the studio announced the upcoming release of Beyond: Two Souls as their next title. It was released in late 2013 with no further news on the Chronicles.

After the release of Detroit: Become Human, Cage explained in a Reddit AMA that he felt the studio needed to "move onto something new" rather than continue the DLC.[4]
